I went into a spattering of unintelligible words.
Brian close your mouth and don't utter another word. You have dug yourself a really big hole and it is only going to get worse. Just keep your mouth closed.
"Brian, let me help you out. I would really like to go on a date with you. Yes, you do have to pay for both of us. Now, are you okay with things so far?"
"Yes."
"Good. Now I will not drive my car to work on Friday...Do I need to drive on this date?"
I just shook my head.
"...I will not drive my car to work on Friday and we can leave from here. Please don't plan to go anywhere fancy; I don't feel fancy after working here all day. I have I left anything out?"
My mind was so muddled that again I could only shake my head.
As Carly turned to head out the door she smiled, winked and told be good bye. I very quietly spoke a slow drawn out good bye.
I don't know how long I sat my desk. I really don't even remember leaving the building or how I got home. I awoke from this daze at my kitchen table. In front of me sat some chocolate chip cookies that I had made a few days before and a glass of milk. The milk was still cold. I finally looked at the clock to see what time is was.
6:15. I had not spent the whole night in an unconscious state. When I woke up this morning I would have never guessed what the day might have brought.
In 48 hours I have a date with this girl. Did I ever intend to ask her out? Seriously, when was the last time you went out on a date with someone you really wanted to? You've been on a couple dates to "help" your friends, but nothing serious. Carly is a girl that you really want to go with. It doesn't have to go beyond your date on Friday. Brian, do something you'd think fun. This date is about you.
